FAQ
Aircon questions answered
Quick answers for common Philippine cooling decisions. For deeper dives, see our buyers guides.
How many HP do I need for a bedroom in the Philippines?
As a starting point, a 10–12 sqm bedroom often suits 0.5–0.75 HP, while 13–18 sqm rooms commonly need 1.0 HP. Ceiling height, sun exposure, and number of occupants matter — add capacity if the room gets direct afternoon sun or has large windows.
Is inverter aircon worth the higher price?
Inverter units cost more upfront but typically use less electricity at partial load, which helps if you run the AC many hours daily. For occasional use, a reliable non-inverter may pay back faster. Compare estimated kWh using your Meralco rate and expected daily runtime.
Can I use portable aircon in a condo?
Many condos allow portable units if you vent hot exhaust air properly through a window kit or approved opening. Check your building rules — some restrict modifications to façades or require landlord approval for exhaust hoses.
How often should I clean AC filters?
Clean washable filters every two to four weeks during heavy use. Clogged filters reduce airflow, increase power draw, and can cause ice buildup on the evaporator coil.
Split type vs window type — which is better?
Split types are quieter indoors and look cleaner but need professional installation. Window types are simpler and often cheaper for renters or retrofits where an existing sleeve opening exists. Match the choice to your budget, noise tolerance, and installation constraints.
Do mini evaporative coolers work in humid areas?
They work best in dry heat. In humid Philippine cities, expect modest comfort improvement rather than true air conditioning. Treat them as supplemental fans with evaporative cooling, not replacements for refrigerant-based AC in sealed rooms.
What refrigerant should I look for?
Many newer units use R32, which has a lower global warming potential than older R410A systems. Either can perform well if the unit is properly installed and maintained — focus on energy rating, warranty, and authorized service availability in your area.
When should I call a technician?
Schedule service if you notice weak cooling despite clean filters, water leaks indoors, unusual noises, or refrigerant-related issues. Annual preventive cleaning helps split and window units last longer in dusty or coastal environments.
