What Is the Proper Position of a Window Type Aircon?
Where to place a window-type aircon for better cooling, drainage, and noise — Philippine bedroom and apartment tips.
Placement goals
Good window-unit position balances cooling throw, drainage slope, outdoor heat rejection, and noise. A crooked install is a top reason units drip indoors.
Practical rules
- Slight outward tilt so condensate drains outside (follow the manual degrees).
- Outdoor side must have clear airflow — not sealed flush against a wall or aluminum shutter that traps heat.
- Avoid aiming cold air directly at sleeping faces for hours; slight angle across the room often feels better.
- Keep furniture from blocking the indoor grille.
- Upper-floor heat and west windows may need a higher HP — position can’t fix chronic undersizing.
Building constraints
Condos and rentals may restrict window-sash cutting. Confirm landlord rules before buying. Compare window vs split if outdoor space for a split exists.
